Annual Turkish National Holiday celebrated on May 19 to commemorate Mustafa Kamal’s Landing at Samsun and Youth and Sports Day in 19th of May.
Commemoration of Ataturk, and Youth and Sports Day in 19th of May, every year Turkish celebrate Youth and Sports Day or Gençlik ve Spor Bayramı which was started by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk the Founder of the modern republic of turkey.
The Commemoration of Ataturk and Youth & Sports Day is an annual Turkish national holiday celebrated in honor to memorialize the began of the Turkish War of Independence.
So after the death of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, it was decided that this day to be the day of Commemorate Ataturk.
One of the main traditions of this day is young Turkish athletes run with the Turkish flag from the Black Sea Port at Samsun where Atatürk began the War of Independence and over 10 days the flag is carried across the country to Turkey’s Capital in Ankara finishing with the flag being handed to Turkey’s current President who accepts the flag during a ceremony.
A Minute silence is also observed in memory of Ataturk and wreaths and flowers are laid at monuments of Mustafa Kamal Ataturk throughout the country including at the Anitkabir the mausoleum of Ataturk.
Also various sports events take place during the day which are watched by many at the local stadiums , in that day the youths sing the national anthem, recite poems, make parades and sports and realize cultural activities like performing cultural activities, dances and play epic drama to folk dances and play epic drama to commemorate Atatürk.
