Swimming from Asia to Europe in the Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race Istanbul-Turkey

The traditional Samsung Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race “Boğaziçi Kıtalararası Yüzme Yarışı” is just as it sounds. It is considered one of the World’s Top 100 Open Water Swims and the Top 50 Open Water Swims In Asia, it is organized by Turkish Olympic Committee,  The Bosphorus Swimming Race is held annually in 26th July.

The unique city of Istanbul, Turkey, lies in both Asia and Europe and the Bosphorus Swimming Race enables participants to swim across the channel from Asia to Europe.

 

 

The competitors comes every year from over 50 different nations,  include non-professional swimmers participate, teenagers, amputees, charity fundraisers and foreigners who travelled to Istanbul especially to compete.

They’re all looking for a quick swim between the two continents.

Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race
The Bosphorus Cross Continental race began on the Asian side of Istanbul at the harbour of the Kanlica precinct, as competitors took to the water and headed to Kuruçeşme, Europe.
The average time required swimming the race between the starting and finishing points of the race is 50 minutes.

Thanks for increasing yearly interest, this adventure, which began with the participation of four female and 64 male athletes in 1989, and it has grown to become an important part of the Turkish sports tradition.
